Happy Thanksgiving

Tags: happy thanksgivingChunky wool scarves, wraps and cowls have made their way down several catwalks - and judging from the amount of frost on my front lawn this morning - it’s perfect timing to bring them out!
I love supporting indie designers, and Etsy is full of fantastic, trendy designs - check out this hand-knitted wool cowl by New York designer, Spratters & Jayne:

Fashionable and cozy - now there’s a happy mix :-)

One lucky reader will win a pair of these PZI Jeans:

“Traditionally, most jeans are engineered with gaps at the waist to prevent going up a size to accommodate the hips and rear while neglecting the waist. PZI Jeans eliminate the gaps allowing women to embrace their true jean size. “
And a $50 gift certificate for New York’s Bruno Jamais Restaurant:

“Bruno Jamais Restaurant Club brings the French Riviera to the upper east side. Where else can one dine in style until 3am with delectable cuisine such as chocolate soufflé and Foie Gras? The service and décor are equally impressive. The restaurant received the “Best Interior Design” award by Hospitality Design Magazine.”
To enter, just leave a comment explaining why you deserve these goodies!
The contest is only open to readers living in the continental USA. The contest runs from October 10th until October 31st. I will choose a winner through a random draw and announce it on November 1st.
Good luck!

One October is using salmon skin, which is strong, light and environmentally friendly, to make their funky accessories. Their designs have even shown up on celebrities like Shannen Doherty (she’s worn the Kara bracelet):

During the month of October, 60% of the proceeds from the Amy bracelet will be donated to breast cancer research:

But being creative with garbage?
Now that takes chutzpah!
Luisa Cevese Riedzioni creates purses and totes from industrial scraps and waste textiles - stuff that is meant for the garbage. Her one-of-a kind handbags don’t remotely resemble anything thats meant for the recycling bin - check out this waterproof silk & polyurethane tote:

Some cheap hair elastics are being made from condoms - possibly even used condoms.

Ewwww eeewwww eeeewwww.
“BEIJING (AFP) - Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday
In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.
‘These cheap and colorful rubber bands and hair ties sell well …. threatening the health of local people,’ it said.
Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.”

Do you wear your favorite heels to the office in all that muck?
Of course not!
You switch to a flat shoe… which leaves your pant hems dragging on the ground behind you.
Blech urgh yuck.
Luckily for you, two sisters from Georgia came up with an easy solution to winter pant problems - they invented Zakkerz.

Zakkerz are small magnetic clasps that allow you to roll your hems up out of harms way - and then easily remove for your office high heels. They come in several different colors to blend in with your own clothing - and even come in two lengths for heavier fabrics.

Well, not only are Hush Puppies working on their designs, they’re also working on their environmentally friendlieness.
They’ve come up with a new line of shoes for men and women called “Harmony”. The shoes are created from eco-friendly or recycled materials (like natural rubber soles, reduced toxicity leather dyes). Best yet - they look awesome!
Here’s the “Poised” shoe in black:

That’s pretty much a recipe for something I’d drool over :-)
